Eastern curlew (68/75)

A few dozen curlews migrate to New Zealand each year (compared with about 19000 that visit Australia), and they are generally very wary and shy here. However, this obliging bird was relatively approachable and was frequently seen roosting on a shingle beach near the small coastal village of Kaiaua.
