Totara fruit (2077/2613)

The fruit of podocarp trees like totara are actually highly modified cones with fleshy berry-like juicy scales. The cone contains one or two rounded seeds at the apex of the scales. The sweet fruit are sought after by many native birds, which disperse the seeds in return for the meal.
