The weather today is rather wet, and forecast to get worse. A good day to sit in front of a monitor, sorting though a huge backlog of images, and reworking some old favourites. The patterns in this photo of the Te Paki sand dunes inspired me to try a monochrome interpretation, and I’m pleased I did. You can see a larger version in my web gallery.
I started with the optimised colour tiff file, then used a black & white adjustment layer in Photoshop to produce the monochrome image while darkening the blue and cyan colours of the sky. A new curves adjustment layers was then used to further increase the contrast in the patterns, and another levels adjustment layer to tweak the black point.
I like the result and will make a large print for my wall. Your thoughts are welcome (email, or my Facebook page).
